The protagonist you play in GTA III is "Claude", sometimes called "Claude Speed". There was confirmation of his first name in GTA: San Andreas where he appears briefly as Catalina's new boyfriend driving in a race with Catalina against CJ. Catalina refers to him as "Claude" in various phone calls just to make CJ jealous. Claude does not speak, and CJ refers to him as that "snake without a tongue" at one point. There is no confirmation whether Claude is actually mute, or whether he just does not talk much. In GTA IV, if Niko takes over Playboy's loft, he will find Claude's outfit in the wardrobe.
