Thanks to some information from Cesar, CJ found out that Ryder and Smoke were in league with the Ballas, and also Tenpenny and his crooked cop friends, over drug running. He also saw that they were involved with the car (the Green Sabre) that killed his mother in a drive by shooting. Eventually he was able to catch up with Ryder, and later Big Smoke, and execute them.
