Is AMD athlon 64 x2 better than Intel Core 2 Duo?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There's really no way to tell which manufacturer has the better processors. It all depends on the speed. If you find two processors that are both the same speed, I guarantee that AMD will be 100-150 dollars less but matched quality. Some Intel dual cores are faster than AMD but are much more expensive.

What is 800MHz?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The term "Mhz" stands for Megahertz, where hertz is the number of cycles per second, and Mega equals 1 000 000 (one million). Therefore, 800Mhz is 800x1000 cycles per second.

The term Mhz is commonly applied in computers. For example, a 800Mhz Processor has 800 000 cycles/second and this is its computing speed.. In comparison, a common 2.3Ghz processor is much faster because it has 2 300 000 cycles/second.

What is the difference between General Processor and DSP?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

DSP's are mainly based on Harvard architecture to perform task faster with hard wired instructions as compared to Microcontrollers which are mainly available with von neumann architecture (some microcontrollers like PIC is an exception).

The DSP can compute the numerical parts of your application faster than the microcontroller can. Because that's what it's designed to do. You might also find that DSPs have more of the "right sort" of integrated peripherals, compared to microcontrollers.

Is an Intel core 2 quad q6600 processor compatible with an asus p5gd-vm motherboard?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No. The ASUS P5GD1-VM motherboard uses an Intel 915 chipset, which is too old for a Core 2 Quad (or even a Core 2 Duo). Probably the best processor you could get running on that board would be a Pentium Extreme Edition 840.

What is 1 GHz Dual Core processor?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It means that there are two cores on one chip. It is sort of like gluing two single core processors together if that helps to visualize it. It is good for multitasking because each program can use one core and some can use both at once. Both Cores operate at 1 GHz.

Difference between T4200 Processor and T6400?

Is a Intel Pentium Processor P6100 good?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It should be fine. Before someone says its based on old Pentium technology, it isn't. The new Intel Pentium Dual Core processors are based on the Core 2 Duo core architecture (Merom-2M).

However it doesnt share the same amount of cache as the Core 2 Duo laptop versions have. Although I have one for my new laptop which I use for basic work each day. I have a proper desktop PC which I use to play games and such.

But expect the same technology and enhancements you see on the Core 2 Duo to be on the Pentium Dual-Core.

this is a faily new processor and is very fast and is excellent. i recommend it! yes it is a good buy and in many cases, the laptops it is in is very good value for money as it is quite cheap to buy despite its high quality and durability.

WARNING: this CPU can run quite hot Low45°C High 78°C (Core Temp 0.99.6 - CPU monitoring program)

So it is advisable to try before you buy, make sure the laptop has adequate cooling, otherwise your wrists will get quite hot.

Difference between Pentium D and core 2 duo?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A P4 processor is fast, but the Pentium D is much faster. The D stands for Dual Core. This means that they have two on die processor cores instead of just one, as the Pentium 4 does. Two processors also makes it better for "demanding" applications.

The Pentium D is better if you have a motherboard that will utilize the technology. As stated the Pentium D is Duel core. This is Intel's way of creating the closest environment of a true duel processor. The HT is for Hyper-Threading which acts like a zipper and allows several applications to process at the same time. The Pentium D will really make a difference when used with the new 64 bit operating system.

However, HT (Hyper-threading) P4, does have emulated Dual Core processing. In short, the processor makes the computer think its runing a dual core. The Pentium 4 also has a couple different levels, so if you are trying to make a comparison, make sure that you look carefully.

Although neither can match the power of an Athalon or an AMD x2 processor. If you are buying, get something with 64 bit processing. WAY faster and better for games and high graphic systems.

Is it better to have a 1.5 GHz dual core processor or a 3.0 GHz?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

the 1.5 dual core can handle 2 threads at the same time and 3.0 single core can only handle 1 thread both of them switch threads rapidly if you have CPU-z you will find that the only difference in number of threads (the number of cores in single core is 2)

short answer : the dual core is faster in multitasks

the single core is faster in single task (like most of games)

Is a amd phenom ii quad core good?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

This is a good processors. You will have to have a good graphics card to run today games. This processor is not the best so you might find that games will run a bit slow.

I have the hexacore AMD x6 1035T (2.6GHz) and a fairly pathetic graphics card (1.5GB Nvidia GeForce GT230) (don't get confused by the large amount of video RAM, the rest of the card is pathetic) and I can play Mass Effect 2, NFS Hot Pursuit, GTA4 etc. comfortably (not the best graphics settings for some of the games, but still pretty darn good).

However, if this processor you mention is in a laptop, beware. Unless it is a laptop made for gaming, it is unlikely that it will have a good graphics chip for gaming. Intel integrated graphics are generally useless (portal 2 runs fine, but GTA4 is unplayable) (unlikely that you would have Intel graphics as it's an AMD processor). Read some reviews on the graphics card/chip that comes with your PC, but if it's a desktop PC, you could probably buy a better graphics card if needs be.

But yeah, a quad core 2.2GHz processor is definitely above the minimum requirements for most, if not all, current PC games.

What is faster Intel core 2 duo processor T6500 or Intel Pentium processor T4200?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Not exactly. The T2330 is almost the same as the T5250 except for a few things. The T2330 has only 1mb of L2 cache(as opposed to 2mb on the T5250), and actually has a higher clock speed at 1.6ghz(the T5250 is 1.5ghz). The T2330 can actually perform a bit faster than the T5250 in certain processes, but for the most part should perform about equal to the T5250. The lack of cache isn't noticeable in everyday usage and only really shows if you have multiple(more than 5) programs open and going at full load, or are running very demanding games. Even then, the difference isn't on a large scale. For comparison's sake, the T5250 has a 667mhz Front Side Bus and a 9x multiplier while the T2330 has a 533mhz FSB and a 12x multiplier. Both have a TDP of 35 watts, are built on 65 nanometer process, and are Merom cores(Merom-2M cores, specifically). They are actually made from the from the same silicon imprint, but after manufacturing are differentiated by either defects in cache or some other problem causing them to not express full capability, which would be a T7250. "Pentium dual core" has become Intel's economy line name, however it's every bit as much a Core 2 Duo as an officially labelled C2D, except for half the cache.
